This charming “mom and pop” store will quickly become a staple for your visits to Wilmington.

We asked Gemma and Jack Buckley, the owners of The Ninth Street Book Shop for a few of their current favorites and this is what they responded with:

Gemma:

traveling book

One of our absolutely favorite authors is Alice McDermott, and her best book to date is still Charming Billy, which won the National Book Award. The story centers around Billy Lynch, just a common man with many charms and character flaws, and all those whose lives he touched. But it is McDermott’s masterful writing that elevates this portrait of Irish American life into a classic that transcends culture and time.

pizza on the grill

Summertime is bar-b-que season, and Pizza on the Grill is a great way to enjoy this favorite without heating up the kitchen! It’s full of tips and marvelous recipes that will delight everyone from the pickiest of eaters to the gourmand.

SBA_workbooks

Sure the kids are off from school, but help them stay on track with workbooks that will reinforce skills learned from the previous year and new concepts that will soon be introduced. A great series is the Summer Bridge Activities workbooks. There are books for each grade level from pre-school going into kindergarten through to 7th grade going into 8th.

Jack:

The-Circle-Dave-Eggers-main-v2

David Egger’s The Circle (now in paperback) is a not-so-pleasant look at a future distorted by crossing corporate domination with the obsession of sharing personal information and data. This is a timely novel of ideas told with more than a little suspense.
